Hurrah For Florence Nightingale & Nursing Pride
It’s really hard to believe how the training of nurses has changed over the recent years. Almost since Florence Nightingale herself wandered around her very sick and wounded men, there has been some form of training for nurses. The earlier pioneers would have had very little resource to fall back on but experience in fieldhospitals tought them a very great deal. How much pain can one man withstand may well be one. After the Crimean war there became the much more organised matter of nurse training schools. Slowly but surely the band of knowledge expanded and now we have one of the best trained nursing services world wide. In 2009 it became a necessary to attend university to dfo a 3 year nursing course to become a professional nurse. Howeer since then there has been a limited return to ward led learning by way of ‘apprenticeship’ opportunities to learn on the job, as they always used to. But we thank Florence Nightingale for turning the view from it being a disgusting job to one that is respected absolutely everywhere in the world.
